The reaction between sodium thiosulphate and HCL :: GCSE Chemistry Coursework Investigation

The reaction between atomic number 11 thiosulphate and HCLAim - The aim of this experiment was to find out the prescribe of areaction at different temperatures.- We also wanted to find out the rate of the reaction at a different temperature in bigger or smaller surface areas.Prediction - My prediction is, by increasing the temperature areaction will happen more quickly. The more heat - The double-quick reaction and more collision. The lower the temperature - The slower the reaction and lesscollision. GRAPHMy UnderstandingReactions occur at different speeds in different temperatures.Ive learnt that if the temperature is in high spirits reactions will take placemuch more quickly and the particles will collide more often. The table and graphs prove my theory. The Calculator was used for calculating the add up of the times thatwas record for the reactions to happen. The Beaker was used to mix the chemicals for the reaction to takeplace. The Stop watch was us ed for timing how long it took for the reactionto happen.Method- For this experiment I first set up the apparatus with the apparatus that is come onn above.- I then poured 5lm of HCL into a conical flask.- I then measured 10 ml of sodium thiosulphate,- I then I added it to the 5 ml of HCL.- I recorded how long it took for the reaction to take place, which was how long it took for the X to disappear.- With the times that I recorded from the experiment, I calculated an average.- I then repeated the experiment at 3 different temperatures.Factors and Fair TestTo make this a fair block out I- Kept the amount and concentration of the chemicals the same.- Varied the temperatures to find out how long it would take for a reaction to happen at different temperatures- Did severally experiment at each temperature three times to make the experiment more fair. I also calculated an average, this reduces any anomalous data.Conclusion- My results show that the hotter the reactants the faste r the reaction.- This happened because the particles move more quickely and collide more often as stated in the collision theory. - The experiment proved my prediction correct which was found upon the

Physics chemistry :: essays research papers

ATHENS, Ohio -- Todays computers and other technological gizmos operate on negatronic charges, but researchers pretend that a impertinently generation of smaller, faster, to a greater extent efficient devices could be developed based on another scientific concept -- electronic spin. The problem, however, is that researchers set out found it challenging to control or predict spin which keeps practical applications out of reach. But physicists in Europe, California and at Ohio University now have found a way to manipulate the spin of an electron with a jolt of voltage from a battery, according to research findings published in the recent issue of the journal Physical Review Letters. In the new study, scientists applied voltage to the electron in a quantum dot, which is a tiny, nanometer-sized semiconductor. The burst of power changed the direction of the electrons spin -- which can move either up or down. This also caused it to emit a small particle of light called a photon, expl ained Richard Warburton, a physicist with Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, and lead author on the new paper. Usually you have no control over this at all an electron flips its spin at some point, and you scratch your head and wonder why it happened. But in our experiment, we can choose how pine this process takes, he said. The experiment was based on a theory by Sasha Govorov, an Ohio University associate professor of physics and uranology who is co-author on the current paper. Pierre Petroff, a scientist with the University of California at Santa Barbara, contributed the semiconductor used in the experiment, Indium Arsenide, which commonly is used in electronics. Its matchless of those happy collaborations -- Pierre has given us some fantastic material and Sasha has come up with some really smart ideas, Warburton said. The scientists were able to manipulate how long it would take for the electron to flip its spin and emit a photon from one to 20 nanoseconds. But Govorovs theory suggests that 20 nanoseconds isnt the upper limit, which will lead the physicists to fork up out longer time periods. Scientists abilities to control the spin of the electron help determine the properties of the photon, which in turn could have implications for the development of optoelectronics and quantum cryptography. Photons could be encoded with secure information, which could avail as the basis for anti-eavesdropping technology, Warburton said. The current study is one of many in the growing field of nanoscience that aims to find, understand and control physical effects at the nanoscale that could attend as the basis of a

manager should be a leader Essay -- essays research papers

manager should be a leader What is leadership? How is it diametrical from being a manager? How can leaders keep their finger on the pulse of whats happening, inspire others to high achievement, guide their team members through effortful decisions, and still have time to actually finish a cup of coffee while its still warm? The solution is disarmingly simple Ask questions. brave out in mind to the answers. Ask some more questions. Give good answers to questions asked by others. Easier said than done. The Relationship of Leadership and Management In general, the middle of the road viewpoints hold that 1) although on that point are many overlaps, leadership and management are different things, involving differing skills, behaviors, and viewpoints 2) those who usance only leadership skills, behaviors, and viewpoints are ineffective in organizations that have significant administrative components 3) those who use only management skills, behaviors, and viewpoints are ineffective in o rganizations that have significant human components and 4) in organizations having both administrative and human components, only those who use an appropriate balance of management and leadership skills, behaviors, and viewpoints can be effective. As an example, William Wallace (who most of us Anglos know as "Braveheart") would have been completely ineffective leading(p) the Scots to victory over the English if he were to have used only management skills. Conversely, the proprietor of a financial management business would credibly relate to her clients well but wouldnt make much money for them if she were to use only leadership skills. Carter McNamara, MBA, PhD, wrote that leadership is a facet of management. He wrote, "Leadership is notwithstanding one of the many assets a successful manager must possess. Care must be taken in distinguishing between the two concepts. The main gravel of a manager is to maximize the output of the organization through administrative imp lementation. To achieve this, managers must undertake the following functions organization planning staffing directing despotic Leadership is just one important component of the directing function." If effective management requires us to practice good management skills and effective leadership requires us to practice good leadership skills, and both are needed to do our jobs as SGLs well then first we need an ... ...tLeaders dont inflict pain. They bear pain." - Max DePreeAh well I am their leader, I really ought to follow them - Alexandre Auguste Ledru-RollinWhen the effective leader is finished with his work, the race say it happened naturally. - Lao Tse I deject with the premise that the function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers - Ralph Nader Lead and inspire people. Dont try to manage and manipulate people. Inventories can be managed but people must be lead. - Ross Perot The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for t hemselves. - Ray Kroc, Founder of McDonaldsThe task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been. - Henry Kissinger Think of managing change as an adventure. It tests your skills and abilities. It brings forth talent that may have been dormant. Change is also a instruct ground for leadership. When we think of leaders, we remember times of change, innovation and conflict. Leadership is often about shaping a new way of life. To do that, you must farm change, take risks and accept responsibility for making change happen. - Charles E. Rice, CEO of Barnett Bank

Presidential Power :: essays research papers

Richard E. Neustadt, the author of Presidential Power, addresses the politics of leadership and how the citizens of the United States rate the performance of the presidents term. We measure his leadership by saying that he is either "weak or "strong" and Neustadt argues that we have the right to do so, because his office has become the focal point of politics and policy in our political system.      Neustadt brings to light three main points how we measure the president, his strategy of presidential influence, and how to study them both. Today we deal with the President himself and with his influence on presidential term action. The president without delay includes about 2000 men and women, the president is only one of them, but his performance can not be measured without focusing on himself. Richard Neustadt today is a professor of politics and has written many books on subjects pertaining to government and the inter workin gs of governments. He has many years of personal experience working with the government along with the knowledge of what makes a president powerful. He has worked under President Truman, Kennedy and Johnson. His credibility of politics has enhanced his respect in the field of politics. His works are studied in many Universities and he is considered well versed in his opinions of many different presidents. It is true that he seems to use Truman and Eisenhower as the main examples in this book and does show the reader the mistakes he believes were made along the way in achieving power.      Neustagt begins with President Franklin D. Roosevelt, whom he believes is the one president that knew how best to yield his power. He uses other examples throughout the book of Presidents from FDR to Reagan and endeavors to show the reader the slipway in which power and persuasion was used in order for the presidents too perform at the best of their ability and still retain th e power to persuade in order to govern the country and appease the public. Neustadt points out to the reader his opinion of the ways the president power is seen by others and how affective it is when certain strategies are applied correctly.

Abraham LincolnAs the sixteenth American President, determined to end slavery, Abraham Lincoln finally put an end to his hard act by writing the Emancipation Proclamation.Abraham Lincoln had no intention on freeing slaves when he became president of the U.S.. Although Lincoln constantly believed slavery was wrong, he always believed in white supremacy. He said, If slavery is not wrong, then nothing is wrong. When the state of war started he thought of it only as a way of livery the union. Later, this opinion would change. There are many pressures faced while being the president. Lincoln faced many of these pressures. Pressure for abolition came into the country. This is how he came up with the root word for writing the emancipation proclamation. This made southern leadership reject Lincolns presidency. The pressures forced him to do what he did.Lincoln wrote the Emancipation because of the pressures he was facing. On September 22, 1862, five days after Union forces won the batt le of Antietam, Lincoln issued a preliminary proclamation. It stated that if rebelling states did not return to the Union by January 1, 1863, he would declare their slaves to be forever free. The south rejected Lincolns policy, and so he issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. This caused the southern leaders to turn against Lincoln completely. The emancipation proclamation finally came into nitty-gritty. On this day Lincoln read his proclamation. This would change the world dramatically. By the end of the war, more than 500,000 slaves had fled to independence behind northern lines. Many of them joined the Union forces or Navy or worked for the armed forces as laborers. By allowing blacks to serve in the Army and Navy, the Emancipation Proclamation helped solve the Norths problem of declining enlistments. About 200, 000 black soldiers and sailors, many of them former slaves, served in the armed forces. Even when the proclamation came into effect it still did not free many slaves. Very few black men were freed from the emancipation, but it caused another huge point to come forth. It showed that the civil war was not being fought to save the union, but once and for all, put an end to slavery. Finally, the civil war ended with the north victorious. With all of the blacks joining the army and Navy, the Unions post was twice as strong, which helped the Union tremendously in winning the war.
